Welcome

Shenton College Deaf Education Centre aims to provide excellence in education for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students communicating through signed and/or spoken language.

The learning environment is designed to be supportive, stimulating and to foster independence. Through the provision of individual programs and appropriate inclusion, students will be encouraged to achieve their full potential.

Shenton College Deaf Education Centre is a specialist facility for Deaf and hard of hearing students and operates in partnership with Shenton College. All of the Deaf Education Centre facilities are embedded into Shenton College, to create an inclusive learning environment. The Centre promotes values of equity and diversity across the school and within the school community. The Centre nurtures partnerships with the Deaf community as well as the wider community, enhancing opportunities for students to develop socially, emotionally and academically.

Our highly skilled teaching staff includes Level 3 Classroom Teachers; the WA Premier’s Secondary Teacher of the Year (2016 – Dr Karen Bontempo). We currently employ 6 Deaf staff in a variety of important roles in the school and all our interpreters hold a Diploma of Interpreting and/or NAATI accreditation.
