Welcome

Shenton College Deaf Education Centre aims to provide excellence in education for Deaf and hard of hearing students communicating through signed and/or spoken language.

The learning environment is designed to be supportive, stimulating and to foster independence. Through the provision of individual programmes and appropriate integration, students will be encouraged to achieve their full potential.

Shenton College Deaf Education Centre is a specialist facility for Deaf and hard of hearing students, and operates in partnership with Shenton College. All of the Deaf Education Centre facilities are embedded into Shenton College, to construct an inclusive learning environment. The Centre promotes values of equity and diversity across the school and within the school community. The Centre nurtures partnerships with the Deaf community as well as the wider community, enhancing opportunities for students develop socially, emotionally and academically.

Our highly skilled teaching staff include three Level 3 Classroom Teachers; the WA Premier's Secondary Teacher of the Year (2016 - Dr Karen Bontempo); and the WA School Support Staff Member of the Year (2013 - Ms Josie Hodgetts). We currently employ 8 Deaf staff in a variety of important roles in the school, and all our interpreters hold a Diploma of Interpreting and/or NAATI accreditation. We would love to show you around our teaching and learning facility and address any questions you may have regarding the education of your child at Shenton College Deaf Education Centre.
